No Photo Today

I am the only person I know who loves the movie Elizabethtown. I think it celebrates the simple quirkiness that is this life. If you've seen it, you'll remember how Kirstin Dunst's character occasionally holds an imaginary camera to her face and snaps an imaginary photo. There are times in my life I mentally do that. I say a little prayer that "please, oh please, help me remember just the way this moment looks and feels and sounds and smells." I want to put it in my pocket and bring it out later when the scene has changed and I can savor the memory of it. A few of those happened today and I wished I had my camera. Instead I found myself pushing the shutter button in my mind and saying a little prayer while Gemma's scooter crumpled the fallen leaves as she rode in the evening sunlight. And while Ever shoved her chubby fingers into a tiny raisin box in a dedicated effort to eat the last few raisins.

"above all, I craved to seize the whole essence, in the confines of one single photograph, of some situation that was in the process of unrolling itself before my eyes." -henri cartier-bresson

Lost Somewhere Between the Earth and the Sky
